Job Shadow Work-Based Learning

See the Technology Workplace from the Inside.

Zero to 180 is a guided technology-workplace experience for people who need clarity before choosing a role, course, credential, or career path.

Inside the experience

What participants explore.

  • 01How a technology project moves from idea to delivery
  • 02How business and technical roles work together
  • 03What different professionals own and produce
  • 04Where handoffs, meetings, testing, and decisions occur
  • 05Which roles may align with their interests and strengths

The format

A sample two-day organizational format.

Day 1 — Understand the Workplace

  • Software Development Life Cycle fundamentals
  • Technology-role exploration
  • Team structure and role relationships
  • Product scenario introduction
  • Tool and workflow demonstrations

Day 2 — Enter the Simulation

  • Guided team interaction
  • Role-based workplace activity
  • Project decisions and handoffs
  • Reflection and career-direction exercise
  • Recommended next steps

Timing and activities can be adapted to the audience and delivery agreement.

Who it is for

Built for explorers and the organizations that guide them.

Early-career explorers who want to see technology roles up close before committing to a path.

Students and career changers comparing roles — developer, designer, analyst, product — by watching the work, not reading descriptions.

Organizations — schools, CTE programs, workforce boards, nonprofits — introducing a group to technology careers.

Participant experience

What participants experience.

  • Shadow technology professionals through realistic working sessions — standups, planning, reviews.
  • Observe how product, design, engineering, and data roles interact on the same project.
  • See the tools teams actually use and how work moves through the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Ask questions in structured Q&A with role holders.
  • Map your own interests against the roles you have seen.
  • Leave with an initial career-direction roadmap.

For organizations

What organizations receive.

  • A structured two-day job shadow program delivered for your cohort
  • Pre-session orientation materials for participants and staff
  • Facilitated role rotations across the simulated technology team
  • Individual participant career-direction roadmaps
  • A cohort summary report of engagement and observed interests
  • A follow-up pathway recommendation toward deeper programs like Zero to 360

Learning outcomes

By the end of two days, participants can:

  • 01Describe the major technology roles and how they depend on each other
  • 02Explain how a feature moves from idea to shipped software through the SDLC
  • 03Identify the tools and rituals of a working technology team
  • 04Articulate which roles match their own interests and strengths
  • 05Present an initial, evidence-based career-direction roadmap

FAQ

Common questions.

Do participants need any technology experience?

No. Zero to 180 is designed for beginners and explorers. The program assumes curiosity, not background.

Is this a job shadow inside a real employer?

Zero to 180 is a job shadow experience inside Zeroth Round's simulated technology workplace. It does not imply or guarantee job shadow access inside an outside employer — it recreates that environment so participants can observe real workflows in a structured setting.

How big can a cohort be?

Cohorts typically run between 8 and 25 participants so every person gets real Q&A time with role holders. Tell us your group size in the inquiry form and we will recommend a format.

What happens after the two days?

Participants leave with an initial career-direction roadmap. Many continue into Zero to 360, the micro-internship program, to contribute to a real project in an assigned role.

How is this priced?

Pricing depends on cohort size, delivery format, and location. Request Zero to 180 through the inquiry form and we will send a proposal. No payment is taken on this site.
